There is an abundant assortment of learning styles and multiple intelligence assessments. You can find printable quiz and computer-based quiz that automatically give you the results. I am choosing to uses a short paper-based quiz from the University of North Carolina. I like this quiz because its short, 13 questions, and it provides basic information and strategies that are easy to understand. The scenarios in the questions see appropriate for a middle school student. Here is a link to the survey:
How You Learn Best I will ask students to complete the survey before beginning my lesson for the day. I am choosing to do it first so that I do not, accidentally, bias any students choices. When the survey is complete, we will discuss the 4 learning styles that it looks for: visual, aural (hearing/speaking), reading/writing, and kinesthetic. The discussion of these styles will provide the foundation of our notes in the ISN. You could personalize this to fit you. I will provide examples of my notes for reference. Once we have completed learning about and discussing the 4 learning styles, students will make a prediction on their best learning style and then flip to the back of their survey. On the back of the survey, students will tally up their scores and use the key to select their best learning style. In their notebook, students will list their best learning style and choose/record 8-10 methods that should help them learn best. I will ask students to refer to their list when we complete projects, choice boards, and for studying for tests. We will also tape the original survey onto the notes page so students can refer to it.
