Songs in the Classroom
Let me be clear: I am not a songwriter, I am not a good singer, and I am not a good dancer. However, all of these activities make my science classes very fun and engaging. I typically do not write songs for my students to sing; occasionally, i will have them write a song as one of the project options for a unit. Most of the time, I find and use songs that others, mainly teachers, have created. I can not sing at all, but my students love it when i belt out a tune with my air guitar and all. Sometimes, I get them the dancing with me and we make motions to go along with our songs. It really is amazing to see kids moving to the beat of a song as they are recalling content during a project or assessment.
Links to my Favorite Songs
Mister C: YouTube channel with his Math and Science Songs. Mister C is a former Ohio teacher in Dayton...now an administrator. He has a fabulous science song CD that I purchased. Well worth the money!
Mr. Parr: Hundreds of science songs for elementary through highschool
Rockin' the Standards: Language Arts and Math Album (The math album is fantastic for 3rd-6th grade!)
These are my favorites. I'm sure there are other song resources that I have used and I will post them as I use them.
Want to share a song resource or any other resource? Add it below and I will post it.
